Viking Pendants

Odin's Raven. Odin is supreme among the gods and has many functions including being a god of war, poetry, wisdom, and death. He has two ravens, Hugin [thought] and Munin [memory] which he sends out every day to gather knowledge for him. It is believed this pendant represents one of his ravens. Perhaps this was worn by a warrior so that Odin would see all his deeds and insure his passage to Valhalla. The original piece is from a find in Northern Jutland (Denmark) and dates from the 7th century. It is currently in the National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. This reproduction is made with sterling (.925) silver and is approximately 2 1/8" high, 3/4" wide and weighs 11 grams.

Othala Pendant Bronze. Caste from bronze. Pronounced: "Oh-thall-ah". This rune represents Prosperity, Inheretence, and Homeland or Ancestral Land. The rune of the Homeland is the spiritual state of internal well being, freedom and security in which development and growth can take place. the symbol terminates in wolves - protecting the Homeland. The ring represents the Oath Ring which holds a people together. Pendant is approximately 1 3/8" high and 1 1/4" wide.

Tyr Pendant Bronze. Caste from bronze. Tyr is the god of justice and right action in Norse mythology, portrayed as a one-handed man. He sacrificed his hand to the Fenris Wolf to protect his people and fellow Gods. The runes say "Tyr and Fenris Wolf" in Old Norse:"TYR OK FENRISULFR." Pendant is approximately 1 3/4" high and 1 1/2" wide.

The Spear named Gar, when thrown would always return. Through ritual self-sacrifice, Odin discovered the Runes while hanging from the Yggdrasill, or world Tree. A patron of warriors, he was skilled in magic and a master of primal forces. Known as the One-Eyed God, Odin sacrificed his eye to gain wisdom from the fountain of Mimir. Pendant is approximately 1 3/8" high and 1 1/2" wide. Stone is amber.

Wolf Pendant Bronze. Caste from bronze. The runes say: "òlfhednar ". It is a symbol or the Norse Warriors like the Berserkers or Bear Shirts mentioned in the sagas They were said to wear the pelt of a wolf when they entered battle. òlfhednar are sometimes described as Odin's special warriors, with the pelt from a wolf and a spear as distinguishing features. Pendant is approximately 2 5/16" high and 1 3/16" wide.
