A beautiful Thor's Hammer is engraved on this 12oz drinking horn.   Made from real horn and is polished on the outside with a varnished inside with food-safe varnish (will resist alcohol).  Not recommended for hot beverages.  Being real horn, color, shape, and size will vary from picture.  Approximately 12" long.  Hand wash with warm water and any dish soap before using.  If necessary, use a bottle brush. Do not use a dishwasher.

Lived through the GA Ren Fest

I had a rocky experience with this drinking horn. I must admit that it is the first REAL drinking horn that I have worked with, and any problems that I have had can be chalked up to inexperience.
When I first received it, I was very pleased. It was larger than I expected, fit perfectly in the belt holder that I also purchased (H1026), and looked fantastic. The description claims that it has a food-grade varnish on the interior, so I expected a thick, glossy coating inside, but I guess I don't know what the inside of a varnished horn is like, since this didn't appear to be coated with anything. After handling it more, I can tell that there is something applied to it, it's just not what I expected.

I washed the horn with soap and water, as recommended, and set it out to dry. The next day, the horn stunk worse than a wet, eight-legged horse. After doing some research I tried lemon juice, vinegar.. and soaking over night with these solutions.. nothing seemed to help until I tossed in some baking soda. That helped greatly, but there was always a bit of a gamey smell inside.

I was worried that I would be unable to properly enjoy a hornful of mead at the Ren Fest, but all it took was some time. The smell eventually faded, and after continued use, has disappeared altogether. I am very pleased with this horn now, and will continue to make it part of my Viking reenactment garb.

Maybe over looked in quality control?

After opening the package I was impressed with the size, it can hold almost 2 Guinness. The carving of Thor's hammer looks good. My problem is that on the rim of the drinking horn, it is really thin in one spot and is chipped/ peeled away (the finish and the horn itself). I am sure it will crack/ split after a few drinking sessions. I'd give this item 5 stars if not for this issue.
