The Isle of Lewis Chessmen are a very important find for anyone interested in Vikings. Discovered in 1931 on the Isle of Lewis, the pieces were probably made in Norway in the 12th century. Given how close to the Viking Age these were created it gives us a glimpse into how the Vikings may have viewed themselves. The originals were elaborately carved from walrus ivory and whale teeth. Our chess set is made from polystone and hand painted. The king is 3.25" tall. 19" walnut board is included.
